sculpture 1 final1/22/2020 Tools are a major part of creating art in sculpture, they do the things our hands cant. The tools that i used the most in making my ceramic pieces were a sponge and a serrated metal scraper both pictured down below. Though i didnt use these tools in the common ways they are used i used them often by using the metal scraper to scratch the surfaces of my pieces to then take a slip soaked sponge to smoothen out all the scratches that i made. This made it a lot quicker in getting it in the kiln. The biggest change within my understanding and knowledge of tools is the fact that every tool is versatile What was your favorite material that you used this year? Why do you like working with it? My favorite material that i used this year was clay because i got to know how to play with it and how little things could change it but those changes get cemented by firing it.
What is your least favorite material to work with and why? How did you deal with it, what didn’t you like about it. Please explain. My least favorite material to work with is cardboard and its because if u arent used to working with it then it is very hard to work with because it takes practice. I dealt with by doing but i cut my hand because it was so hard to work with and get through. Which project do you feel was the least important in learning the concepts taught in the course? Please explain. I feel like the frame project was the least important to practice our skills and didnt teach us anything new.

sgraffito1/22/2020 my favorite color is green and spring is coming up and i cant wait for it so i wanted to make something spring themed.
process: 1st i got some clay and wedged it then i flattened it and ran it through the slab roller which created a slab of clay.then after i cut it to size and underglazed it after it dried i carved in my design and lastly fired it and clear glazed it. my piece was succesful because to me it came out beautiful and brings me happiness but if i could do something next time to make it better i would plan a sketch ahead of time. the process was self explanitory and interesting.

pit fire1/22/2020 i did coil and i threw on the wheel, i made a bowl dish coil method and i made a small dish on the wheel. for coil i made worms and layered then smushed and smoothed out until i was happy with it. the struggles i faced were on the wheel because i had to do it over many many times before i successfully made a plate and my coil piece was easy because it was more controllable. my wheel piece ended up getting pit fired but my coil did not the only thing i had to do before pit fire for my wheel piece was trim the bottom and make it smooth.my piece was successful because i loved the way they both turned out. if i were to make it again i would do my coil in time to get pitfired. on my piece that i actually pitfired i burned dog food, salt, tea, and my own hair into it.

greek pottery paper1/21/2020 Euthymides was an ancient Athenian potter and painter of vases, primarily active between 515 and 500 BC. He was a member of the Greek art movement later to be known as "The Pioneers" for their exploration of the new decorative style known as red-figure pottery.
i worked on choosing the style and color contrasting. Sgraffito, (Italian: “scratched”), in the visual arts, a technique used in painting, pottery, and glass, which consists of putting down a preliminary surface, covering it with another, and then scratching the superficial layer in such a way that the pattern or shape that emerges is of the lower colour. Register is horizontal lines that take part in the story.

cardboard piece11/1/2019 in progress... my plan for my piece is to make a skateboard as the base and my dog made out of cardboard as the focus. the base of the skateboard has been very straight forward and more simple but the dog has more details and has been a struggle. finished piecethe skateboard was a full success, it doesnt roll but it is life sized.
if i were to change something i would actually complete the dog and not give up. take your time when it comes to gluing. |
